People come in with a lot of rules they picked up from the internet, friends, or old advice that has not kept up with current knowledge. Some rules are helpful. Others are holding you back.
Here are a few “rules” we gently break on a regular basis at Ritual by Tracy Holzman NP C.
Myth 1: “If It Burns, It Is Working”
Sometimes a tingle is normal. A constant burn is not a badge of honor. It can be a sign of barrier damage. We want effective products, not ones that leave you chasing irritation.
Myth 2: “You Must Do All the Things at Once”
Lasers, peels, microneedling, filler, neuromodulators, collagen stimulators, and many products do not need to happen in the same month. Strategic sequencing is often safer and more satisfying.
Myth 3: “Only One Syringe, Always”
One syringe is not a magic number. Sometimes one is plenty. Sometimes, for balanced and natural results, more is appropriate. What matters is placement, depth, and proportion.
Myth 4: “Darker Skin Cannot Have Lasers”
While some devices and wavelengths are risky in richly pigmented skin, others can be used safely with the right settings and expertise. The answer is not “never.” The answer is “it depends, and we need to assess.”
Myth 5: “If I Start Botox, I Can Never Stop”
If you stop neuromodulators, your face does not suddenly get worse than it would have. You simply return to your natural aging process. While you use them, you may soften lines and prevent deeper etching.
Myth 6: “Skincare Alone Can Replace Procedures”
A strong skincare routine is powerful. It supports everything we do. But it cannot always replace structural treatments such as filler, lasers, or collagen stimulators, especially for deeper concerns.
Myth 7: “Procedures Alone Can Replace Skincare”
The reverse is also true. Doing Sciton Halo once every few years and ignoring daily SPF or retinol is like going to the gym once a year and expecting to be fit. You need both.
Myth 8: “More Product Means More Results”
Layering several acids, scrubs, and strong actives may damage your barrier and create chronic redness. Targeted, well spaced actives are usually more effective.
Myth 9: “I Am Too Late To Start”
You are not. We see patients in their forties, fifties, sixties, and beyond make meaningful improvements in skin quality and confidence with thoughtful planning.
Myth 10: “Natural Results Mean Doing Nothing”
Natural results mean your face looks like it belongs to you, not that you avoid every available tool. At Ritual, we care about soft, balanced, and believable changes that respect your features rather than erase them.
